Well, it has been nearly a year since I opened the first one and rated it 4 stars. Two more have disappeared in the interim without my making any tasting notes, but after nearly a year I thought I ought to open another one and write a note. Still wonderful on the nose with some lavender, garrigue and blackberry. On the palate, it has come together and is wonderfully fruity and smooth with a nice long finish and smooth, well integrated tannin. Really nice! I'm calling it five stars, but it is really probably 4.6 or so. I could pickle myself drinking this! 3/31/16: We drank our next-to-last bottle of this just because it was there. We'd had a huge late lunch, so there was no food - just the wine. And it was beautiful! Wonderfully full of black cherry and blackberry and just velour like. Very long smooth finish. Fully five stars.
This is an excellent Xavier Vacqueyras. Delicious black berry and dark fruit bomb. Drinking well now with aging potential if I can keep my hands off it. Better than most of the 2007 CNPs that I have tried and the better than Xavier's 2007 portfolio (Gigondas and CNP.) Nice find!
Dark, full fruit, with plenty of alcohol heat (maybe a touch too much), and nice acidity as well. Herbs and stony minerality too. A lot going on here, and hopefully will develop well over the years to come.
Given the glowing description of this wine I expected much more. I found this wine to be pretty ordinary - certainly not in the 91-93 point range. hopefully it will improve with a couple of years on it...
Not great, not bad, perhaps expensive for what I was expecting but we enjoyed the bottle. Glad we only bought 2.
