Syrah is not my favorite grape - but this wine is fantastic.
Dark brooding in glass, the fruit fills the air. Cherry plum and berry all blend well. Young but had to try with 4 in reserve.
Full disclosure: this is my third Stolpman Syrah, and my bias is undeniable. I have tasted 2009 Syrah Hilltops, 2010 Syrah Originals, and now this 2010 Angeli Red. Even though the entry-level 2010 Syrah Originals is not on par with the other wines referenced here, in all of those the terroir of Santa Ynez Valley comes through in the glass. Terrific concentration invariably elevated by the olfactory elements.
Had to try a bottle after giving another to my Angeli as a present. All the components are there, but they still need time to meld into the typically-stunning Stolpman product. Nonetheless, surprisingly approachable and rich. Thankfully, I'm patient and have more bottles. A solid four plus stars at this point.
Very bold, concentrated, fruit forward, and definitely on the sweet side. I will give remaining bottles at least five years to find a balance. Right now too extreme for my palate.
