Beautiful wine. Nose of bright blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate and bacon fat. Palate brings deep black notes, sweet tobacco, baking spice and a mouthwatering long finish. It's January 5th, and I will be hard pressed to open a better value all year. Day two: nose faded considerably, but the palate held up better.
Ripe berry to the nose with hint of eathiness and dark cherry red in color. Pleasing black berry and plum on the palate. The young but pleasing tannins kick in with the jamminess of the syrah. The heat follows nicely mid to the finish. Definitely young, decant if you can and enjoy.
A very restrained wine, with lovely fine tannins and incredibly strong structure. Warm, long, very dry finish. The palate is very savory, I don't find a lot of fruit. A really elegant wine, not at all forthcoming, but worth the effort of coaxing the bouquet out of its shell. I will probably drink my remaining 4 bottles over the next 3-4 years. I should say that when I first opened the bottle I thought it would be a great disappointment, but after about 45 minutes the wine began to open and reveal it's charms, and continued to develop over the next several hours. I will never cease to be amazed at how a wine changes over the course of a few hours.
Menthol overpowers the nose and toasted oak still pronounced on the tongue. There is cherry and blackberry in there but is still muted. Needs 2+ years to come into its own.
Beautiful. This wine has softened, yet retains beautiful black cherry, blackberry nose, with minerality in background. Lovely mid palate that goes and goes and goes. 4 1/2 is my score
I have liked virtually every one of the wines recommended here, and have bought cases and cases. Every one was a 4 star or better with me. The Stolpman was a disappointment. It had a chemical aftertaste and little body. I ended up pouring half of it out. I'll try another bottle ... Maybe this one was bad... But if its the same, ill be serving it at parties or making sangria out of it!
