Chateau Revelette
 Chateau Revelette is run by Peter Fischer (see photo), a German who was brought up in a family of industrialists. Growing up he dreamt of being a cowboy, and realized his dream in the late 70s in California working on a ranch. While in California he also attended UC Davis and worked for a short time at Beuna Vista winery in Sonoma. Following the call home to the "old world," Peter settled in Provence where, following a year working with local oenologist Emmanuel Gaujal, he struck out on his own and in 1985 purchased the Chateau Revelette, which at the time had 12 ha of vineyards and a small cellar. The property is on the north side of Mont St. Victoire, an arid but relatively cool location thanks to the winds that roll down the Val de Durance and the mountain which holds back the warming air of the Mediterranean. The traditional (red) vines of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan are an average 25 years-old. Peter also introduced Cabernet Sauvignon to this 17th Century property (an homage to his days in California) and cultivates smaller plantings of the traditional white grapes, Ugni Blanc and Rolle with newer plantings of Sauvignon and Chardonnay. |
