StraightTalk: Made in the foothills of the Italian Alps(Piedmont), this is a great introduction to Barolo for people accustomed to California reds. This dark purple wine has good ripe fruit tastes and is smooth and easy to drink. Lots of flavor. Excellent with mushroom dishes, stews and roasted meats.
GeekSpeak: This is a classic example of winemaker Pio Boffa's skill at wedding old world flavors with a new world package. The color is dark but bright purple, none of those burnt edges of many old-style Barolo. The nose needs a little coaxing, but will reveal ripe plum, floral tones, and hints of licorice and tar. In the mouth it is a middle-weight with layers of flavors. Again, the ripe fruit is evident(not always a strong point in this part of the world), licorice and a touch of earth. The delicious flavors linger. Tannins are evident but interwoven nicely. A very good effort and a style that can be drunk now.
