I'm throwing punches in the air(fiesty) tonight after having some '89 Branaire Ducru of St. Julian and '90 Haut-Marbuzet of St. Estephe. Thus I'm in the mood to shoot you a review on for the '90 Haut-Marbuzet.
The '90 Haut-Marbuzet is completely ready for pleasure without the slightest twist of tanin present. It's soft and elagant with nice acidity and fruit. Early from the bottle the smokey tones caress the back of your throat but later aren't as present. My wife, Sandy, adds that licorace is in the finish and she's right as always. Across the tongue the wine is soft with integrated black fruit. Made of, usually, 50% merlot and the rest cabernet and cabernet franc, the wine shows it by it's suppleness and, while measuring an 88 to 89 on my scale, is a thing of beauty, pure French(those bastids) styled Bordeaux, albeit, flamboyantly architected, yet CLASSIC in the end. It's hard to find classic claret outside of France and even when HM attempts something else, well... there you go.
Enjoy this darling now and for another few years. I got mine on my honeymoon at the Chateau in '93. Have it with some Gruyere cheese and Louisianna chicken andoulle sausage.
It would be nice if I could spell, huh?
