Library Release Chambertin Grand Cru
The secret to Louis Latour’s unmatched value proposition is simple: 250 years of experience in Burgundy have given the family unmatched access to prime vineyard land, and unparalleled expertise in the cellars. After acquiring their first vineyards in the Côte d’Or in 1731, they have acquired choice parcels one by one, and longstanding family ownership means Louis Latour can offer stunning wines for a fraction of what their Grand Cru neighbors are charging.
Last week, we joined Louis Latour President Bernard Retornaz in San Francisco for a special tasting featuring a baker’s dozen of the Domaine’s most prized bottles, including this rare and perfectly cellaring Chambertin Grand Cru release.
On the nose, this ‘99 is still incredibly alive with aromas of fresh red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry notes which dance harmoniously with developing aromas of leather, wild mushroom, and licorice. Beautifully balanced, with a supple grip of tannins that show plenty of structure and life, the palate continues with flavors of Bing cherry, mulberry, five-spice, star anise, leather, truffle, and forest floor.
Today, we have a few cases available exclusively for Wine Access members at the insane value price. Coming directly from the Louis Latour cellars with perfect provenance, this is a rare shot at perfectly cellared Burgundy that is inching toward its prime.
