Magnificent Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

Sam Baxter has been a great friend, and we owe it all to a dinner in NYC: on our plate was a 28-day dry-aged ribeye courtesy of Jean-Georges, and in our glass was a Terra Valentine estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon. This “marriage” eventually brought us to winemaker Sam Baxter’s doorstep in Napa.

Baxter is a winemaker who knows Spring Mountain and Atlas Peak like a New York City cab driver knows the back streets of Manhattan. During a tasting of back vintages, we experienced Spring Mountain at its finest: massively concentrated, supple red, unveiling rich black-fruit underpinnings in the glass. Each wine showed the nuance of the year, and highlighted the mastery required to craft perfectly structured wine off those challenging, steep slopes.

When the rare opportunity came up to offer bottles of the 2008 Terra Valentine (a 10-year-old library release) we jumped at the chance. Now, the last bottles are yours for the taking.

In the 2008 vintage, which Wine Spectator rated 96 points, and which Robert Parker called “outstanding,” Napa legend Baxter’s Bordeaux varieties performed magnificently. Wine Enthusiast called the 2008 “a spectacularly good wine to drink right now,” in their 95-point review which was dripping with praise: “A best-of-barrels blend from the classic Bordeaux varieties, this wine is delicious.”
