One of the Most Collectible and Sought-After Brunellos in Existence Today
One of the Most Collectible and Sought-After Brunellos in Existence Today
The impending release of the 2013 Brunellos opened up an opportunity for Wine Access to capture 10 cases of the stellar 2008 Valdicava Brunello di Montalcino, and we pounced.
The swift among our clients will find out why Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called this “fabulous” and “one of the best wines of the vintage” and dropped 93 points. James Suckling one-upped Parker and gave the Valdicava 94 points, calling the wine “refined and delicious” and “structured for the vintage.” At just $89 today only from Wine Access, it’s 20% off, and the best price in the nation. Sleep on this one and you’ll be sorry — these 10 cases won’t last the day.
Set on a high plane on slopes near the village of Montalcino, the winemaking roots of the Valdicava estate stretch back to 1953. Valdicava is the old name for the valley where the greatest single-vineyard wines of Brunello are produced. At its center, the grand Madonna del Piano vineyard, a flagship of the Valdicava estate, neighboring the fantastic crus of Montosoli, La Casa, and Vigna del Lago. With total production of the estate at just 6,000 cases, Vincenzo Abbruzzese has transformed Valdicava into one of the most collectible and sought-after Brunellos di Montalcino in existence today.
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate has called Vincenzo Abbruzzese “Montalcino’s number one over-achiever with winner after winner since 1988,” attributing Vincenzo’s success to “a willingness, indeed eagerness, to spend whatever it takes for quality.”
In the unusually cool 2008 growing season, one in which the top estates put out magnificent, Burgundian-styled Brunellos, Valdicava turned out a rich, gorgeously delineated Brunello di Montalcino. But don’t take our word for it — find out for yourself why The Wine Advocate called this “one of the best wines of the vintage.”
