Mouton from the Left Bank’s Greatest Vintage

In 2010, which Wine Spectator called the best vintage ever for Left Bank Bordeaux, Château Mouton Rothschild made not only one of the greatest wines in their history, but perhaps one of the greatest wines EVER.

It earned a stunning three 100-point scores, and when it was released, collectors funneled the flawless Bordeaux into their cellars as fast as they could.

But some bottles stayed behind. They aged, untouched, in the cool Mouton cellars for over a decade now. We’re proud to offer 18 of these bottles—ones that stand alongside 1982 and 1986 as some of the greatest wines ever made by the Bordeaux icon—to our most dedicated collectors.

Wine Spectator called the 2010 vintage a “modern classic” and the 2010 Mouton displays the character that makes the year so appealing. After a cool, wet start, the vintage kicked into gear in June, with a warm, dry summer offset by cool nights that lasted through August—a combination that allowed for spectacular ripeness balanced by fresh acidity and muscular tannins. Finally, a perfectly timed sprinkling of rain before the home stretch allowed for long hang-times and the chance for châteaux to pick at the optimal moment.

Longtime winemaker Philippe Dhalluin—recently named James Suckling’s Winemaker of the Decade—made sure the wine lived up to that perfect year. His final blend included 94% Cabernet Sauvignon—the most ever in a Mouton, and a reflection of the perfect growing conditions for the signature grape of Pauillac.

It’s a bottle that begs for another decade—or more—in the cellar, or some extended decanting. Either way, this is going to be a centerpiece of any collection and the topic of conversation at any dinner table.
