As Thrilling As Our First Sip
Wine cannot possibly get better than this.
That’s what our Master of Wine Vanessa Conlin was thinking years ago, as she let her first-ever sip of Cabernet from Dana Estates linger on her palate. Eventually she became so enamored with the winery that she sought a job there, and for three years she had the good fortune of being part of the Dana Estates family.
But over the years, we've learned that Vanessa's first impression was dead wrong. Dana Estates wines can be improved. And age is the only thing that can do it.
We wish every wine lover could experience the thrill of tasting Dana Estates’ perfectly cellared wines, which is why we're ecstatic to bring something truly unprecedented to a select few Wine Access members: the chance to add a six-vintage vertical of Dana Estates Onda Cabernet Sauvignon to your collection.
Thanks to Vanessa, we've gotten very close with Dana Estates over the years, which is why Wine Access members are privy to this special vertical, which will be delivered to your door in its original wood case, straight from the Dana Estates cellar. Best of all, these bottles come from 2011-2016—a stretch that encompasses what might be Napa Valley’s greatest streak of vintages ever.
Dana Estates consists of some of the most stunning and coveted vineyards in Napa Valley, and no wine captures their outstanding sites and winemaking acumen quite like Onda. It’s a Cabernet-dominant Bordeaux-style blend that brings four of their vineyard sites together to present a bold, sophisticated, supremely age-worthy picture of their inimitable estate.
Vanessa was at Dana Estates for the launch of Onda, which offers lovers of Napa Valley wines a bottle that—like the single-vineyard Cabernets from Helms, Hershey, and Lotus vineyards (which cost $575+)—can age beautifully for more than a decade, but offer purity, plushness, and elegance even in their youth. And after tasting (and reveling in) these six bottles, we're happy to say that every one is in or entering its prime drinking window. Together, they embody the gorgeous progression of careful aging that takes place in the Dana Estates cellar.
This has been a long time coming: a six-bottle vertical that we owe to patience, and to our excellent relationship with Dana Estates. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime offer for Wine Access members, so claim it now to get an instant, luxurious boost to your collection.
Vintage Notes:
2011 – A vintage that was first overlooked by many. Over a decade, it’s gained a reputation (and fans among savvy collectors) for its Old-World nature and fresh acidity.
2012 – The first of Napa Valley’s unprecedented streak of top vintages, this gorgeous season is characterized by ripe tannins, and has drawn comparisons to the all-time great 2009 vintage in Bordeaux.
2013 – Robert Parker’s “game-changer” vintage is known for richness, intensity, and structure. Now showing beautifully, nearly a decade on.
2014 – Another exceptional vintage that brought bright and focused Cabernet, the 2014 season reminds us of 2012, with its plush tannins, rich core, and approachable nature.
2015 – A spectacular vintage marked by density and fine-grained tannins. A year of low yields, so we’re extra lucky to have this one, especially as it eases into its prime drinking window.
2016 – The last year of Napa’s incredible drought streak, 2016 managed to stand out, even after four incredible vintages. One of the all-time greats, showing beautifully now, but fit for a long stretch in the cellar.
