One of the Last Hands-On Wines from a Barolo Legend
One of the Last Hands-On Wines from a Barolo Legend
At the time of his passing two years ago, Domenico Clerico was widely regarded as one of the most important producers in all of Italy. His philosophy and vision changed the way the reds of Piedmont are perceived by collectors and critics alike, and his top wines from the appellation are among the most respected in the world.
And the 2013 vintage is one of the last that he personally had a hand in crafting. Which goes a long way toward explaining why they have become such collectors’ items, benchmarks for a region that he did so much for over the course of his decades-long career.
In its 95-point rave, Wine Advocate loved the 2013’s “bouquet [that] offers delicate layers of mineral and flint with dark fruit and spice neatly folded into its thick texture.” Vinous adored its “super-ripe red cherry, plum, sweet tobacco, cedar and spice [that] resonate in the glass.” We swooned over the entire package…enough to work overtime to secure an allotment of this spectacular testament to the work and legacy of one of the true legends of Italian wine.
