    Michelin 3-Star Favorite

Many have asked how we discover the tiny-production French and Italian wines so frequently featured on Wine Access. Most of the time, it’s through hard work, traipsing up and down lesser-known wine trails, knocking on the cellar doors of young, inspired winegrowers. But we first learned about Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet’s Roc des Anges while sipping espresso and scanning the wine lists of France’s Michelin 3-star restaurants — once word got out of the utter brilliance and monumental concentration of these richly textured reds … the sommeliers came knocking on the Gallet’s door. It’s the reason why this broad, dense, powerfully built, yet perfectly weightless on the palate red has made its way onto EACH of the lists at Guy Savoy, Le Pré Catalan, Le Crillon, and Pierre Gagnaire. As the hotshots in Paris would tell you, this is one to chase after.

The 2013 Roc des Anges “Segna de Cor” is drawn from a patchwork quilt of 28 distinct parcels, where roots burrow 5 meters into sand and schist, ferreting out precious water reserves.  Despite massive concentration (alcohol flirts with 15%), acids are far firmer than in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Broad, dense, and powerfully built, yet perfectly weightless on the palate, this is one to stockpile.
