Best Price in America on a “terrific example of the vintage”

Many of you hit the “Buy” button as soon as you skimmed the subject line. History tells us that just seeing “2013” and “Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon” catches plenty of WineAccess members’ attention. When some of you saw this was 2013 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Robert Keenan… well, we know that many have already hit the “Buy” button. The rest of this offer is not for those fast-on-the-trigger members; it’s for you, still deciding.

In his annual report on Napa, Antonio Galloni found little to criticize. He wrote, “There is little doubt 2013 will go down as one of the all-time great vintages for Napa Valley.” Robert Parker declared 2013 “one of the greatest vintages in 37 years.” The only hand-wringing vintners faced in 2013 was in deciding when to pick — a decision guided by finding that perfect intersection, the sweet spot between phenolic maturity and ever-increasing sugar levels.

For the 2013 Robert Keenan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a significant portion of the cuvée  is derived from the Keenan Estate up on Spring Mountain, which lends impeccable mountain fruit and tannin. Then, Cabernet from the eastern Pope Valley lends an undertone of basso-profundo black-fruited purity, while a pinch of Merlot from cool Carneros adds middle-palate roundness and pretty and herbaceous aromatic nuance.

Deep inky purple in the glass, out to a ruby-magenta rim. Powerfully ripe black currant and blackberry aromas immediately effuse out of the glass, followed by sage and violet notes. Full-throttle, rich, oozing with dark plum, Bing cherry compote, and mountain blueberry, balanced by bittersweet baking chocolate, hints of woodsmoke, and graphite. Bordeaux-esque firm tannins are buttressed a refreshing acid surge, but with plenty of polish. The finish goes on and on a good 30-45 seconds. It will offer tons of pleasure out the gate, but powerful tannins will mellow by the early 2020s, and it will continue to shine in the late 2030s.

For those still needing a final push, Antonio Galloni rated this Robert Keenan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 93+ points, calling it “deep and powerful from the get go,” with “terrific aromatic complexity,” and a “terrific example of the vintage.”

In the days of “Napa Gone Wild,” where vineyard land costs $300,000 or more per acre, Keenan remains a bastion of extreme value and quality. $44 per bottle — the best price in the USA! Shipping included on 4. If you’ve read this far, you’ve significantly decreased your chances of landing one of the just 75 cases up for grabs, but wait no longer!
