This 2014 Château de Chamirey Mercurey 1er Cru “La Mission” Monopole — drawn off some of the best and most famous terroir of the Mercurey appellation — won 93 points and an “Editors’ Choice” selection from Wine Enthusiast. In 2014, Burgundy produced a sensational crop of whites, a vintage that won 93-96 points from Wine Spectator, making it the greatest since 1985. If you’ve found yourself shut out of the top wines from that spectacular but low-yield growing season, today Wine Access offers a rare shot to stock your cellar.

Vinous instructed readers: “For lovers of classic white Burgundies, 2014 is clearly a vintage to buy.” The early critical acclaim about the 2014 white Burgundies ignited a shopping frenzy, drastically slimming the chances that everyday consumers could get their hands on wines from the region’s most coveted plots.

Château de Chamirey, founded in the 18th century, can lay claim to six such plots, constituting 38 acres of Premier Cru vineyards in Mercurey. The “La Mission” cuvée is drawn off just under 5 acres of the elite vineyards in that domain, which are owned exclusively by Chamirey. Overlooking the iconic “Clos du Roi” parcel, the oldest vines on this east-facing terrace were planted in 1961 and average 35 years in age. The soils mimic the limestone makeup of Meursault, while the wines share the mouthwatering, stony minerality of the hyphenated Montrachets to the north.

In the glorious first weeks of September 2014, the densely planted rows of “La Mission” produced berries of sensational quality, as sugars spiked while acids remained firm. A little under three years later, the wine made from that season’s magic grapes can be on your doorstep, direct from Château de Chamirey cellars, while our allocation lasts.
