A 5th Generation Grand Cru White
A 5th Generation Grand Cru White
The 2014 Dirler-Cadé Riesling Saering Grand Cru hails from Alsace, the region in eastern France where Riesling thrives. The Dirler estate was founded in 1871, and when fifth-generation Jean Dirler married Ludivine Cadé in 1998, the families’ two estates merged, and Dirler-Cadé was born. They farm 45 acres in Alsace, of which 20 are Grand Cru-rated.
Located north-east of the village of Guebwiller in southern Alsace, the Grand Cru Saering is marl-limestone. This vineyard, whose name means “Sea Ring,” produces wines that display pronounced salty notes, and this one opens up with beautiful Meyer lemon and nectarine aromas, then leads to ginger, pear, and floral notes. Power and length while staying extremely light on its feet. We have the best price in the nation on this perfectly aged wine, which is just starting to hit its stride
