    Napa Valley’s “Hidden Gem”

    Napa Valley’s “Hidden Gem”

The base of the Mayacamas Mountains is lined with wineries, but only one of them was called “a hidden gem in Napa Valley” by Wine Spectator.

We’re blowing the lid off Ideology’s hidden status, and sharing their perfectly cellared 2014 Ideology Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from coast to coast. A dark red wine of generous fruit and expressive aromatics, Ideology captures the essence of 2014’s generous vintage, and comes with the structure to age gracefully in the cellar.

In 2014, a vintage Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called “extraordinary,” this robust, spicy Cabernet Sauvignon sold out from the winery. But when a distribution deal on the final cases fell apart, we were right there to pick up the pieces.

Drinking top-notch Napa wines was once a dream for Ideology founders Bob and Joni Williamson too, so in 2003 the duo dove headfirst into Napa, acquiring a stunning 15-acre vineyard in Oak Knoll, as well as a custom crush facility where they made their own wines and served as an incubator for small, artisanal brands. In less than two years, the critical praise started rolling in, and hasn’t stopped: Ideology’s estate wines have taken home 95- and 96-point scores from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, and scored a spot on Wine & Spirits magazine’s Top 100 list. Ever since, and their small-production wines have been hard to find.

We’re offering you the rare chance to taste the expertise of the Williamsons and winemaker Leigh Meyering, a Bordeaux veteran who honed her skills in Napa at Charles Krug and Spring Mountain Vineyard. Their 2014 bottling flaunts a mesmerizing array of blackberry, cassis, and plum fruit character the instant the cork is popped, and gives way to dark chocolate, clove, and baking spices with time.

The 2014 vintage was one of those years in Napa that collectors still talk about—think 1982 in Bordeaux, or 2005 in Burgundy, and you’re in the same ballpark. Drought conditions and early ripening resulted in what Wine Spectator called “a dream vintage.” James Suckling, after tasting 500-plus reds, gushed over the “extremely attractive” wines. “This is a vintage not to miss,” he wrote, adding that, “the wines show a wonderful aromatic tension, balanced palate, and vivid finish.”

The 2014 Ideology Estate Cabernet Sauvignon embodies the warm conditions of the vintage perfectly. Quality and pedigree like this typically start at twice the price.
