Tradition in a Glass

Roagna has been producing wine since the 1800s and they boast not only some of the best crus of both Barolo and Barbaresco, they pride themselves on using vines of significant age and making wines without the use of new oak. This is evident in the complexity and depth of the wine in the glass.  And It is the site and experience (of both the vineyard and the winey) that shows when vintage conditions are less than perfect. This is a site from which Roagna has been producing wine since the 1980s, with the oldest plantings dating back to 1937. Year after year, the wines prodcued show grace and power and one of the truest expressions of the blue marl soils of Castiglione Falletto.

The 2014 Pira Barolo is unexpectedly round and full, packed tightly with flavors of raspberry and herbs that open up as the wine breathes in the glass—when we last enjoyed it with, we only wished I had decanted a second bottle as soon as we opened the first!
