A Serious Step Above
Among the five First Growths, Mouton stands alone: It was promoted to the pantheon in 1973, the only one to have proven itself worthy of First Growth status after the original Classification of 1855. Since then, the wines of Mouton have become as prized as any in the world.
Of course, collectors are delighted with Mouton because it’s a safe bet to appreciate in value. But Mouton is unique in that, since 1945, the château has commissioned a renowned artist to paint each vintage label: Chagall, Picasso, Dalí, Koons, Hockney, and even Prince Charles have contributed their talents to Mouton’s special tradition.
Wearing a label by German artist Gerhard Richter, the 2015 Mouton stands above all other Pauillac wines of the vintage. Rippling with strength and intensity, ready for decades in the cellar, it’s a wine that Jeb Dunnuck praised as “a candidate for perfection.” No serious Bordeaux cellar should be without it.
