2015 Château Potensac Médoc 750 ml

Owned by the Delon family, Château Potensac is the sister property of Château Léoville-Las Cases, arguably one of the greatest of the Second Growths. And it’s crafted by the same team as the clamored-for Super Second, with the same level of attention to detail in order to bring out its pure Médoc character. Perfumed and expressive, the 2015 volunteers aromas of freshly-picked violets, black currant, black cherry, and crushed stones, underscored by firm tannins and fresh acidity, which lift its flavors of black currant, plum, and tobacco.

We’ve been fans of Château Potensac for years: It’s one of the Bordeaux that our team tends to stock up on, vintage after vintage, for our own collections. Because when it comes to quality, pedigree, and overall pleasure for the price, few châteaux even come close. 

But we aren’t the only ones in love with Potensac. This Bordeaux—which retails at a bargain price compared to California red blends and Bordeaux-inspired wines worldwide—is impressive enough to have been featured on some of the top wine lists in the country, including the by-the-glass list at Jean-Georges Restaurant in New York City, which makes sense given its deeply food-friendly character. 

The Delon family is one of the most respected in the region, and the 2015 vintage is one for the ages. Vinous described it as “radiant,” and said that “at their best, the 2015s are spectacularly rich, racy wines loaded with personality.” We couldn’t agree more.
