Collector Alert: “Eight Bottle Limit”
We’re thrilled when we can offer highly allocated, top-scoring wines like this 2015 Hertelendy Cabernet Sauvignon. It combines the opulence and finery of the Napa Valley floor with the awesome power and volcanic complexity of the mountains. This is everything a Napa Cab should be.
When we first discovered it, we were amazed by the wine’s impeccable balance of finesse and intensity. A little digging revealed that owner Ralph Hertelendy—a sommelier and vintner whose family boasts generations of winemaking experience—had hired Chappellet winemaker Phil Titus to steer the ship.
Together, they have released Cabs that never received less than a 95-point rating from Robert Parker, an astonishing run continued by this 2015 version, which won 96-point scores from both Wine Advocate and Jeb Dunnuck.
The 2015 is Hertelendy’s first Cab to incorporate fruit from Oakville’s To Kalon Vineyard, arguably Napa’s finest site. Along with this source of countless 100-point wines, Hertelendy tapped their estate vineyard—a parcel that sits nearly 1,400 feet up on the border of Howell Mountain—as well as choice sites in Pritchard Hill, Atlas Peak, and the Silverado foothills.
Titus and Hertelendy double-sorted the grapes for quality and employed extended maceration to capture full tannic complexity. The wine spent 23 months in 90% new French and Hungarian oak, infusing the bold, juicy fruit with refined notes of roasted espresso, chocolate, and crème brûlée.
Previous vintages have dazzled members, and the 2015 only raises the bar. This is an extraordinary Cabernet.
