The Philosophy of “Not Doing”
If you love Brunello di Montalcino, you probably already know the glory of 2015. Wine Advocate wrote, "Fruit has never been more beautiful than it was in the picture-perfect 2015 vintage…leaving no wine untouched by its magic."
La Serena’s 2015 Gemini Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a tiny-production, organically farmed beauty that any Brunello lover will cherish in their cellar. Only 833 cases were produced and only 100 of them made it to the United States.
For many Brunello fans, La Serena needs no introduction. Vinous‘ Antonio Galloni said the estate “can be counted on for rich, powerful wines full of character,” while Wine Advocate claimed the wines “meet that elusive sweet point between power and elegance that is so difficult to achieve.”
This is a flashy Brunello with a warm, fleshy profile and power to spare. With plenty of ripe tannins and acids that are well developed and integrated, it shows fantastic potential and will reveal layers and layers as it ages over the next couple decades.
“Gemini” refers to twin brothers Andrea and Marcello Mantengoli, who adhere to a philosophy of “not doing” in tending their vineyards. To Andrea, that means watching over the rows closely and intervening only when necessary.
The brothers’ Gemini Riserva is made from their very best vines, which average 22 years of age. The wine doesn't age in new oak or barriques, just conical 70hl oak vats that let the beautiful fruit shine. The result ticks every last box for gorgeous Brunello—one that will reward with up to another 20 years in the cellar.
