The Rare Grand Cru Burgundy Steal

Any time we’re able to offer Grand Cru Burgundy, it’s a special day. As prices skyrocket and yields dwindle, it gets harder and harder to lock in the best of the best.

Louis-Fabrice Latour, our longtime friend, has graciously opened his family cellar to offer us less than 20 cases of his 95-point 2015 Corton-Perrières Grand Cru, a gorgeous red Burgundy from the vintage Wine Enthusiast called “one of the best of the century.”

Like the best wines of the 2015 vintage, this gorgeous Pinot Noir has the weight and structure to age, balanced by vibrant fresh fruit and kaleidoscopic complexity, all delivered seamlessly.

Of the 2015 Burgundies, Wine Enthusiast wrote, “There’s no question that these wines will age. In 10, 15 or even 20 years from now, the top wines will give an almost otherworldly pleasure you can only find in Burgundy.” Yet even now, the 2015 Corton-Perrières is giving generously, begging for multiple bottles to be stashed away for drinking over the coming decades.

This bottle began its journey to stardom on the hill of Corton—the heart of Burgundy—just one mile north of the medieval wine-capital town of Beaune. The 12-acre Les Perrières parcel sits mid-slope, with its perfect southeasterly exposure providing ample sunlight for even ripening. The deep red clay and limestone soils help yield wines of classic, long-lived structure.

Sparing no expense, Louis-Fabrice Latour—the 11th generation of his family to make wine in Burgundy—aged his Grand Cru standout in 100% new French oak for 12 months. Medium-toasted barrels were the ideal choice to add tantalizing spice and suppleness to the wine without overwhelming its terroir-driven brilliance.
