The Best $12 Malbec We’ve Ever Tasted

The Best $12 Malbec We’ve Ever Tasted

During our annual Christmas visit with the family to see the Nutcracker at the Met in NYC, we found ourselves paying more attention to a incredibly delicious Malbec poured by the glass than even the Sugar Plum Fairy doing pirouettes. The Valle Las Acequias Malbec has long been considered one of the greatest value Malbecs on the market. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate stated that the wine “over-delivers for its humble price” and at $12 per glass at the Met, we felt we were getting away with highway robbery after dropping a cool $300 per ticket. Today, we are offering a Malbec that was previously only offered at the Met Opera House but instead of $12 per glass, its $12 per bottle. A Wine Access exclusive and a MUST-CASE-BUY for bargain-hunters.

Winemaking began in Mendoza for the Correas family in 1860 with Don Segundo Correas who planted the five classic Bordeaux varieties around the estate and also painstakingly built the winery by hand. Today, the family owns 1,000 acres of vineyards, some of which are over 80 years old. The vineyards are split into eight zones all over 800 feet above sea level. The 2015 Valle Las Acequias Malbec is a pure expression of 100% Malbec that is sourced from the“Don Angelino” zone namely from the 80 year old Alto-Medrano vineyard. The grapes are hand picked in small boxes during the first and second week of April.

The Wine Advocate said the wines of Valle Las Acequias “over-deliver for its humble price” and we are on the same page. $12 a glass at the Met Opera and $12 per bottle (by the case) today at Wine Access.
