Tiny-Production Sonoma Pinot From Iconic Vines

Tiny-Production Sonoma Pinot From Iconic Vines

When the 93-point score on this 2015 Sojourn Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast hits in early February in Wine & Spirits, Sommeliers from San Francisco to New York will come calling to Sojourn for their allocation. But I’ve just come from the winery’s appointment-only tasting salon just off Sonoma square and have 50 cases earmarked for Wine Access clients. This 2015 Sonoma Coast Pinot reminded me of why I love Sonoma Pinot so much — especially cuvées that include fruit from such impeccable sites like Gap’s Crown (a fruit-source for cult icon Kosta Browne), along with other storied Sonoma vineyards like Sangiacomo, Rodgers Creek and Walala. A Kosta Browne Pinot from Gap’s Crown will run you $100+. But for just $37.99 per bottle you could lock into this Sojourn Pinot and revel in its luscious dark-fruit character profile, courtesy of Gap’s Crown fruit, bolstered by the earthiness and structural complexities from Erich’s other select Sonoma sites. Having tasted — and fully enjoyed — this beauty, I can say the choice is easy, but as always, the choice is yours.

Winemaker Erich Bradley honed his craft under two of Sonoma’s greatest Pinot producers: Richard Arrowood and David Ramey. And during my tasting, Erich talked of 2015’s outstanding Sonoma vintage, saying it led to “microscopic yields” of small berries packed with ripe, tannic complexity. With access to the best Pinot grapes from every corner of the Sonoma Coast’s sprawling terroir, from vines blanketed by the foggy skies of the Petaluma Gap to the well-draining rocky soils of its northwestern coastline, Sojourn’s Pinots are lively and energetic.

Bold aromas, smooth texture, and finesse are the hallmarks of Sojourn’s portfolio and this 2015 Sonoma Coast Pinot is an essential example of Sonoma excellence — not to be missed by lovers of true California coastal Pinot.

Sincerely,
Vanessa Conlin
