La Storia’s Impressive Alexander Valley Cabernet

La Storia’s Impressive Alexander Valley Cabernet

This past fall, we visited Trentadue’s beautiful winery in Geyserville. The surprise of the visit? Their “La Storia” Cabernet Sauvignon, which hails from the same spiritual Alexander Valley Cabernet grounds precious to Silver Oak and Jordan Winery. And we’ve enjoyed those Cabernets for as long as we can remember. This 2015 La Storia comes primarily off the beautiful 1.5-acre La Storia vineyard in Sonoma County’s top-flight Cabernet hotbed. In the excellent 2015 vintage, yields were down, which resulted in fruit of elevated quality and concentration. This La Storia is supple and decadent, brimming with dark-berry flavors and rich oak integrations with nuanced spice.

Trentadue’s “La Storia” is one of those brands: It’s easy to find great things to say about them, but, because of their steadfast consistency, it’s getting hard to find brand new great things to say about them. Miro Tcholakov has been turning out blockbuster wines at Trentadue for nearly two decades. Those roots now run six decades deep in Sonoma County, and the wines have been stocking the cellars of Wine Access clients for years.

La Storia farms only ten acres of Cabernet, which makes this a relatively small bottling. Production size was capped even more by 2015’s famously low yields. Fortunately, that excellent vintage also brought even ripening, bright fruit and firm acidity to a Cabernet that may be “new” to Wine Access clients, but will be intimately familiar with the way it over-delivers.
