A Winemaking Legend’s Alexander Valley Red Blend
A Winemaking Legend’s Alexander Valley Red Blend
If Miro Tcholakov is involved in a wine, we’re on board, and the latest testament to his mastery arrives bottled in the fleshy and decadent 2015 Trentadue La Storia Cuvée 32. This Sonoma red blend, builds and improves upon Miro’s 18 vintages of excellence. He uses grapes from Trentadue’s new 1.5-acre vineyard in the Alexander Valley. This twist further showcases Miro’s ability to capture the essence of the AVA’s warm climate and alluvial soil — characteristics that inspired founder Leo Trentadue to plant vines here nearly 60 years ago. If you’ve managed to remain unschooled in Miro’s masterwork at Trentadue, now’s your chance to fix that — we’re offering La Storia for 39% off its release price. Be forewarned: Our clients love this wine as much as we do.
In 1959, The Dry Creek Vineyard trained Leo Trentadue purchased his 208-acre Alexander Valley estate, lured by the promise of its combination of climate, soil, and water. When he planted vines, he was among the first to do so in Sonoma County after Prohibition. The terroir-driven qualities from the estate’s vines both recent and ancient still enchant thanks to Miro’s legendary winemaking abilities — skills he’s honed since his days at Dry Creek.
Truly low yields are the hallmark of the 2015 vintage, which saw a historically early bud break but then extended hang-time, allowing the berries to ripen evenly over the entire growing season, keeping acids fully in check. Miro characterizes his red wines from this remarkable vintage as dark red in color, with “bright fruit and firm acidity.” The 2015 Trentadue Estate La Storia Cuvée 32 push these elements to their limits, creating a sumptuous blend that showcases just what is possible from Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley.
