The Baron Takes on White Burgundy

Limoux is one of the rare regions in the South of France best known for its white wines. The locals take fierce pride in their place in sparkling wine history, as they fermented bubbly in-bottle long before the Champenois (or at least they claim it!). Either way, the region has an incredible white wine tradition, but still manages to fly under the radar in the U.S.

Cool, high, and far off the Mediterranean, Limoux is heaven for Chardonnay, and the Rothschild family is proud to put the Domaine de Baronarques Limoux Blanc against the best of Burgundy. Matured in 40% new oak and 60% one- and two-year-old barrels, the Chardonnay is full and complex, with vanilla and toasted notes, and a streak of acid that makes for a rich, crisp finish. This is Chardonnay from a classic region, and one of the finest wine-producing families in the world. Well worth the modest price.
