The Loire's Undisputed Masterpiece
Didier Dagueneau, the wild man of the Pouilly-Fumé, created the most in-demand Sauvignon Blanc of the Loire Valley. He was among the first of the region to make single-site wine from own-rooted, low-yielding vines worked by horse. His craftsmanship extends into the cellar, where he uses unique cigar-shaped barrels with very light toast. Since his passing in 2008, his legacy is carried on by his son, Benjamin, who continues to make age-worthy Sauvignon Blanc of the highest order.
Didier’s prestigious Silex is an old-vine Sauvignon Blanc fermented in oak yet aged in stainless steel. Named for the local flint soil, Silex has an incredible undertone of crushed stone that is inimitable. The wines are rich, rounded, and silky on the palate, counterbalanced by bright, refreshing acidity giving each bottling textural depth—the epitome of Sauvignon Blanc.
The only challenging part of his singular wines is resisting the urge to open them right now.
