Beautiful Syrah from a Near-Perfect Season

The Hoopes family sold Cabernet grapes from their Oakville farm to a major producer from 1983 until 1999, when they made their first estate-bottled wine. Twenty-three years later, they remain something of an undiscovered secret—but not for our members. Their wines are some of our quickest sell-outs every time we offer them, and the customer ratings repeatedly illustrate why.

Their Sophie’s Block Syrah comes from a beautiful site in Napa’s cool Oak Knoll District. There, the microclimate, lean soils, and unique bowl-shaped exposition create the perfect ripening conditions, yielding small clusters with beautiful grapes.

2016 was a near-perfect growing season in Napa—Wine Spectator reckons it’s the second-greatest year ever—and Hoopes took full advantage, harvesting at optimal ripeness for a powerfully rich wine that gets lift and elegance from a small amount of cofermented Viognier. Eighteen months of aging in barrel plus a few years in the cellar have polished this rugged gem into a diamond, perfect for your table today with a luxurious ratatouille or smoky grilled lamb.

A female-led winery, 100% family-owned and operated. Farmers in the Napa Valley for 50 years, committed to organic, regenerative farming and animal-rescue causes. There are so many reasons to love Hoopes Vineyard—but ultimately, the biggest reason is how much outrageous value they deliver in every bottle.
