We Weren’t Coming Back without the Magnums

When the early-morning call came in from our connection on the Quai de Bacalan in Bordeaux, we didn’t hesitate for a second.

A pristine, château-direct parcel of magnums from Grand Cru Classé star Chateau Prieuré-Lichine? The same Prieuré-Lichine that’s been on a serious roll since 2014? And we could offer the bottles for well under $150?

We weren’t hanging up without them.

We’re thrilled to say our parcel of 2017 Chateau Prieuré-Lichine Margaux magnums are now in stock and ready to ship. A Margaux that Jancis Robinson called a “quite rich…chunky wine that has a strong cassis flavour and a cool, fresh finish,” it’s the perfect addition to your cellar if you’re looking to stock up on a special birth year or have a great claret for a holiday gathering.

Prieuré-Lichine’s undertook a complete renovation of the winemaking facilities in 2013, which allowed them do what every elite-level winery in the world does: vinify and barrel-down small parcels separately, allowing total flexibility when the time comes to blend the Grand Vin. 2014 was the first year Prieuré-Lichine had this in place for harvest, and their quality has been on the upswing ever since.

Consulting winemaker Stéphane Derenoncourt focuses on and respecting the diversity of the vineyards, tended plot by plot on some of Margaux’s finest gravel outcroppings, and he’s made the château’s name synonymous with a lush, sumptuous, seductive style.

This 2017 in magnum is a shoo-in for the cellar. Built on beautiful tannins and packaged in a large-format bottle that will facilitate long aging, it’s a quintessential expression of Margaux that you’ll be thrilled to have on hand a decade or two down the line.
