Power and Finesse from 'Crazy' Site

For those who want to experience the highest level of Chardonnay precision, focus, and expression—without paying a Grand Cru price—the 2017 Domaine de Montille Les Folatières Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru is for you.

Extraordinary character and a deep sense of place have been defining traits of de Montille wines since 1947, when the late, great Hubert de Montille inherited his family’s 250-year-old estate. At that time, most Burgundy growers sold their grapes to négociants, but Hubert changed course, keenly understanding the quality potential of his estate grapes.

Over the next 50 years, Hubert’s wines became the stuff of legend. When his son Etienne took the reins in 1995, that legacy only grew.

De Montille has the privilege of controlling a single half-hectare parcel located in the heart of the Puligny-Montrachet’s Les Folatières site. The name means "crazy earth," and it refers to the eroded soils and myriad broken stones of the vineyard. The de Montille plot is prime, sitting mid-slope between Leflaive and Leroy.

Aged for one year in oak barrels (no more than 25% new) and five more months in tank, this bottle boasts the acumen of one of Burgundy’s great producers and the incredible finesse and legendary power of one of Puligny-Montrachet’s great sites. Simply put, Chardonnay does not get much better.
