A Hillside Cabernet Icon in the Making

    “A quintessential example of perfection.”

That’s how Robert Parker once described Hidden Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon, from the site now known as Immortal Estate. Parker quickly realized he had stumbled upon one of the great hidden terroirs in California—and that is proved with every new vintage of Immortal Slope.

Praised as “a big beast of a wine” and “one satisfying mouthful of a Cabernet ” by Jeb Dunnuck, the 2017 Slope is no doubt among the finest buys in California Cabernet. Previous vintages have garnered some of the greatest reviews we’ve seen from members: One called it “the best Cab [they’ve] had in many years.” Others deemed it “hands-down one of the best wines” of their life and “better than wines I drink costing 3x as much”!

From a world-class terroir on the highest ridges of the Mayacamas, not far from Pride Mountain, this is a bottle that will have you thinking you’re drinking a cult Cab that costs multiples more.

There are few sites as perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon as Immortal Estate, which exists in a land of extremes on the Sonoma County side of Spring Mountain, 1,700 feet above sea level. The Cabernet vines reach deep into the sandy loam and volcanic basalt slopes, which are steep enough to make you look over your shoulder at the abyss below and double-check to make sure your boots are flat on the ground.

The unique site, out of necessity, is tended only by hand, and that effort has yielded a wine of haunting power and grace. It’s drinking beautifully now, but will evolve for at least another decade in the cellar.
