La Pelle is already being touted as a must-have Napa Cab, and—since it’s made by Wine Enthusiast’s 40 Under 40 winemaking master, Maayan Koschitzky and iconic vineyard manager, Miguel Luna—its cult status is destined to follow soon.

Because of our personal relationship with Maayan and Miguel, we were able to snag their last few bottles for Wine Access Cabernet devotees. Each year, the duo produces a mere 150 cases, making La Pelle nearly impossible to find! Today is your chance to be ahead of the curve on the Napa Valley scene, and we hope you’ll take us up on this offer… and get to tell your friends you were one of the first to experience La Pelle.

Maayan is currently head of winemaking for Atelier Melka, and has made wine for Screaming Eagle, Dalle Valle, and Lail among others while Miguel oversees vineyard management for La Pelle as well as Accendo, Dana Estates, and Stag’s Leap Wine Company.

Over a home-cooked dinner a few years ago, Miguel pulled out a bottle of this new personal collaboration. With kids at our feet and steaks on the grill, we knew it was a moment to remember—this was clearly the start of something really special from the first sip. It wasn’t long until the press caught on, with Robb Report calling La Pelle “Napa’s new winery to watch.”

The beauty of this wine starts with the bottle that shows the black silhouette of the signature shovel, or la pelle, in French. The wine is rich and bold yet elegant, clearly Napa Valley’s best fruit made with Bordeaux-like sensibilities. There is dense blackberry fruit macerated with licorice and bay leaves and an undertone of luxurious leather. The pronounced tannins will serve the long life of this wine allowing it to age for 15-20 years with ease. This wine could easily be mistaken for a new wine from Maayan or Miguel’s more high profile (and high-priced) clients.

The 2017 Napa Valley Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon comprises 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot and 2% of Cabernet Franc sourced from vineyards mainly in St Helena and Coombsville. After 12 months of aging the individual vineyards, they chose the best components to assemble the perfect blend of the vintage. It was aged in 80% new French oak for 20 months and additional 8 months in bottle prior to the release.
