One of The Silkiest, Velvetiest Wines to Ever Come Off The Property
Ten cases. An amount you can stash in a decent-sized closet. That’s how much of the 2017 Larkmead Lark Ascending SF Chronicle Winemaker of the Year Dan Petroski crafted for the 2019 Auction Napa Valley, and that’s all there will ever be.
100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the one-of-a-kind terroir of Larkmead’s Calistoga estate, it’s one of the silkiest, velvetiest wines to ever come off the property. Deep, dark crimson in the glass and shows aromas of layered blueberry and blackberry preserves framed with dried lavender and rosemary. Full-bodied yet supple, the wine’s dark fruit is enveloped by toasty oak notes of cedar, vanilla, and baking spice, which linger through the long finish. Gorgeous now, but will develop beautifully in the cellar.
Winemaker Dan Petroski's notes on the wine:
The palate of this wine sets it apart from the other wines in our portfolio. Every Larkmead wine is blessed with a core of blue fruit, floral notes, dried herbs and bittersweet chocolate, it’s the sense of place that we like to talk about with Larkmead wines, but from this barrel which we bottled this particular wine it is unlike any other Larkmead wine – as the texture wraps those flavors into a nuanced, silk and velvet package. The wine is supple, and it reaches all corners of the mouth, elegantly releasing its inner mouth perfumes for 30 seconds or more. It is a profound wine and difficult to resist the texture on the palate.
