Pink Provence By Way of California Rosé

Provence might have had a stronghold on the market, but no more. The Lorenza rosé hails from sunny California using Provencal varieties and hits the spot for any festive occasion. The low alcohol (only 11.4%!) won’t weigh down your Croquet game, and the fresh acidity and notes of peach, melon, and tangerine are a terrific match for summer vegetables and grilled seafood, chicken, and turkey burgers. This under-$20 rosé has been featured in the Wall Street Journal as one of their top picks this year and we couldn’t agree more! It’s a seriously delicious rosé.

From the very first vintage in 2008, mother-daughter team Melinda Kearney and Michèle Ouelette have been laser-focused on making this delicate beauty, which is drawn from gnarled old vines.Melinda and Michèle both fell in love with rosé, separately.

Melinda grew to love the dry rosés of Provence as she learned every aspect of the wine business since 1990, working in everything from production to sales. Melinda’s daughter Michèle encountered rosé as a teenaged model in Paris, as le vin avec le dîner, her French hosts not thinking twice when serving their young and gorgeous guest. When Melinda and Michèle decided to start their own label, they chose to focus on dry rosé.

They quickly learned that picking at the perfect time requires much discipline. And they picked early, while sugar levels were low, which accounts for Lorenza’s ultra-dry, ultra-crisp style. Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault grapes were gently whole-cluster-pressed and fermented in stainless steel.
