The 2017 Massetino is the first release for Masseto's new second wine, and it is a total stunner. All of the opulent radiance of Masseto is present, but Massetino has less tannin and overall structure, both of which will make it easy to drink upon release. A small percentage (6-7%) of Cabernet Franc adds quite a bit of dimension.

Midnight purple and opaque. Black plum, black cherry, star anise, cinnamon, mocha, candied violets, and sandalwood aromas tease of what's to come on the palate. Generous and dense, the wine is radiant but supple. Rounded tannins give a luscious texture to flavors of blackberry and creme de cassis, with touches of exotic spice, cedar, and dried herbs giving dimension to the long, layered finish.
