    Rutherford Rivals Raise the Bar

A few months ago at a favorite Rutherford lunch spot, our Master Sommelier Sur Lucero approached the Provenance Vineyards winemaking team—and busted open the door to some of our biggest red wine steals of the year.

Today, that bold move keeps paying off, with the supercharged and silky 2017 Provenance Deadeye Red Blend. This blockbuster from Provenance’s prime Napa Valley sites hits the bullseye for fans of unapologetically rich Napa reds, posing a direct challenge to their famous neighbor—Provenance sits across Napa Valley’s Highway 29 from The Prisoner Wine Co.—and topping it in the value department.

The winery has not started selling this vintage online yet, and of the tiny number of online retailers (just four), we destroy the price of the competition. So if you’re one of the thousands of fans who can’t get enough of Provenance, The Prisoner, and the rich and ripe blends that Napa Valley does better than anywhere else, grab the 2017 Deadeye here at by far the best price in the nation: just $33 per bottle.

Members who’ve taken advantage of our previous offers are vocal about how Provenance over-delivers from one of the priciest parts of Napa Valley. They’ve written: “Phenomenal wine… Wish I could buy a case or two!!!!!!!” “Great value,” and “Definitely a keeper.” One rave lauded Provenance as “Superior in every way!”

A bold, crowd-pleasing blend of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah, the 2017 Deadeye is plush and dark-fruited, with spice box, cracked pepper, freshly scraped vanilla pod, and dark chocolate adorning the super-generous mouthfeel. Seamless, supple, and supercharged, it’s a Napa Valley Red Blend at its full-bodied best.

We talk about provenance (with a lowercase p) all the time, so we know it when we see it—and Provenance walks the talk: 90% of the grapes that make up the 2017 Deadeye come from the winery’s own meticulously cared-for vineyards, which stretch from sun-kissed Calistoga in the north of Napa Valley to Oak Knoll in the south. In 2017, Deadeye’s signature swagger was accentuated by a dry spring, and a summer featuring several hot stretches that resulted in beautiful ripeness.

The Deadeye name signifies the winery’s dedication to precise winemaking and to wines that express their prime vineyard origins—and this one hits the mark. Harvested at night to keep the fruit cool and preserve the live wire of acidity, the berries were sorted before 18 months in 40% new French and American oak added touches of vanilla and oak spice.

The result is another big payoff from one of our most fortuitous Napa Valley meetings, a blockbuster blend that will put Provenance's high-profile neighbor on notice.
