We stumbled upon this delectable bottle by chance when our neighbor invited us over for ribs and brisket and popped it open to enjoy with the meal. He had just gotten back from Spain and insisted that this was a “must-try.” 

We quickly agreed. Immediately we were blown away by the wine’s intense aromas of dark plum, dried meats, hoisin glaze, and spice which seamlessly integrated with the smells of the barbecuing meat. 

We were sure he was sharing something very expensive and rare with us, but only the latter turned out to be true. The very next morning we reached out to Rioja Vega, and when we heard back from them, we couldn’t believe our luck. 

The proprietor offered us an exclusive allocation at a fraction of what we suspected it would cost. When someone offers you a great deal on a wine that’s cultivated from land that was originally planted in 1882, you take it, especially when it’s a wine like the 2017, which displays Rioja Vega’s strong history in the region.
