    A California Classic

Schramsberg is America’s most iconic sparkling wine producer. They’ve been the standard in Napa since the ‘60s and still haven’t relinquished the crown, making wines that combine Champenoise technique with a California flair to produce bubbles that belong in the same breath as the Grands Marques with a style all their own.

Their Pinot-based Blanc de Noirs is the epitome of richness and power. Expansive on the palate with incredible red fruit layered with nectarines and cream, it’s our go-to California sparkling and the bottle we offer to sparkling wine skeptics. It’s refined and elegant like a top Champagne, while retaining an exuberance and power that makes it uniquely Californian.

Founders Jack and Jamie Davies always knew California terroir could match Champagne, and they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams: Schramsberg is often mentioned in the same breath as the most famous houses of Champagne, and was even served by President Richard Nixon for the historic “Toast to Peace” in Beijing.

Since then, Schramsberg has gone “from strength to strength,” in the words of Robert Parker, stockpiling vineyards perfect for making sparkling wines. Their Blanc de Noirs hails from top sites in Sonoma, Marin, and Anderson Valley, selected for their cool-climate verve, blended with a touch of Napa grapes to provide extra richness and lip-smacking fruit flavors.

Every time we visit their winery, we’re awed by their vast network of caves, carved deep into the hillside by their winery. Dark and cold, they’re stacked with bottles from floor to ceiling, all patiently aging, awaiting their turn to be disgorged and released into the world. That commitment to aging on the lees in a perfect environment is one of the things that sets Schramsberg apart from the rest of California’s bubbly—and allows for the fine texture and exceptional depth of their wines.

Unlike in Bordeaux or Burgundy, with their $1,000+ bottles, this is one area where it’s easy to take home a truly iconic wine—and Schramsberg is worth treating yourself to.
