    Aaron Pott’s Napa Blend Knockout

Winemaker Aaron Pott has been responsible for producing some of the most coveted Bordeaux blends in the US and abroad, earning himself a Food & Wine Winemaker of the Year award and $500+ auction prices for his wines. From a selection of high-profile vineyards like Stagecoach and Star, he’s crafted an Arise blend packed full of the same Right Bank grace and California grandeur that have made him a superstar.

In this 2018 half bottle, Pott has channeled his experience at Grands Crus Classés Châteaux Troplong Mondot and La Tour Figeac into an elegant red, balanced with a fruit purity reminiscent of his acclaimed wines at Quintessa and Newton.

Straight from the bottle, it’s off to the races with purple flowers, blackberry pie, herbs, and dark cocoa on the nose. Raspberry and black plum on the palate are complemented by espresso and spice. “The palate is silky, precise and doesn’t feel heavy-handed in the least,” Decanter said, while Vinous’ Antonio Galloni called it “absolutely delicious,” and part of a 2018 lineup that’s “beautifully defined and distinctive.”

Dig deeper into the wine’s background and you’ll see why. What’s inside these half-bottles comes from four in-demand California vineyards that get both collectors and winemakers salivating. Stagecoach Vineyard, which has supplied icons like Alpha Omega and Caymus; Star Vineyard, which sits on coveted Rutherford land; Hudson Vineyard in the cool hillsides of Carneros; and Crocker & Starr in renowned St. Helena. Single-vineyard bottlings from each of these sites can go for over $100, and they come together in the 2018 Arise in beautiful and balanced coherence.

The Blackbird Arise is no stranger to Wine Access members, who have rained praises down on previous vintages, saying they “knocked our socks off,” and offering some advice: “This is seriously special and if there’s any left, get moving…” Wise words, if you ask us.

A skillful blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 26% Cabernet Franc with dashes of Syrah and Petit Verdot, the 2018 Arise enjoys a lavish aging regimen. It spends 21 months in 75% new French oak, contributing depth and intricacy. Between Pott’s immense winemaking talent, Blackbird’s prestigious vineyard sources, and this careful cellar treatment, this 2018 Arise has it all.
