Standing Tall with the World’s Singular Reds

There is nothing like a great bottle of Bandol.

This singular style of red wine from southern France can’t be found anywhere else, and the Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rouge brings quality and character far beyond what you’d get from Napa, Bordeaux, or Bolgheri for the price.

This superb bottling shows how a grape—in this case, 85% ink-black Mourvèdre—can combine with a unique terroir to create something magical. That’s why it’s been a fixture at some of the world’s greatest restaurants, from Eleven Madison Park and a slew of other NYC fine-dining establishments, to Thomas Keller’s Per Se and The French Laundry, to international outposts like London’s The Ledbury and Sydney’s Hotel Centennial.

Whether you cellar the 2018 edition of this wine for a decade—or two—or drink it young with an incredible meal, its brooding, dark-fruited aromas will transport you to another world, and the full-bodied but well-balanced palate offers a depth and complexity that invites endless contemplation.

Domaine de Terrebrune was founded in 1963 in the commune of Ollioules by Paris-trained sommelier Georges Delille, who spent 10 years renovating the estate, terracing hillsides, and replanting vineyards. The property looks out over the azure Mediterranean, whose marine breezes are a blessing in the region’s oven-hot summers.

The domaine is now run by Georges’s son Reynald, who farms the distinctive brown earth under a 100% organic regimen, eschewing all herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers, opting instead to build on his father’s original sweat equity through rigorous farming practices that push vines to their limits.

The result is one of the richest and most rewarding wines in the world—one that’s a proud addition to every red-wine lover’s cellar.
