An Iconic Wine with More History than America

Since long before the United States was even a country, the Pichot family has been fine-tuning their Chenin Blanc, and their 200+ years of mastery is on full display in this golden Loire Icon. Luckily for us, the Pichot price hasn’t climbed in equal measure with their prestige over the past two centuries. Instead, the 2016 release remains a delicious beacon of value and Loire Valley terroir.

Pull just one Pichot cork, and we’re confident you’ll agree.

An undeniable benchmark Chenin Blanc, the 2018 Le Peu de la Moriette single-vineyard bottling is vibrant with a honeyed richness and distinct notes of sliced pear and fresh peach. Accented with river rock minerality and the heady scents of fresh wildflowers, a swirl of this 2018 yields a breath of fresh air, inviting sip after sip… after sip.

Equally comfortable as an aperitif wine or alongside roasted chicken, veal piccata, or delicate white fish (à la Dover sole or Baja-inspired fish tacos), the 2018 Pichot is fresh and mineral-driven, and showcases the mastery we’re accustomed to in benchmark bottlings from around the world that command $100 or more.

Still fully family-owned and operated, it’s the cumulative knowledge of current winemaker Chistophe Pichot that makes this wine such a standout. Christophe continues the family legacy of steadfast dedication to the chalk-filled vineyards first planted by his ancestors in 1739, which allowed the Pichot family to define and shape the fame of Vouvray as one of the region’s first wineries, and earn their place in the Vouvray pantheon as one of the first to export their wines to the US.

Today their stewardship of the land and the nobility of Chenin Blanc is epitomized in the 2018 Domaine Pichot Le Peu de la Moriette. Hailing from vines ranging from 25-60 years old that are deeply rooted in Vouvray’s hallmark chalk and clay soil, which gives the wine its depth, purity, and refreshing acidity this 2018 will transport you to the banks of the Loire for a fraction of benchmark wines from other appellations typically command.

With clean notes of yellow apple, white button mushroom, and just a hint of botrytis-style sweetness, you won’t be able to stop after just one glass. And at this price point you don’t have to.
