There are a handful of wines that define Spain’s multi-century winemaking history: Vega Sicila’s Unico, Palacios’ L’Ermita, Artadi’s El Pison, and, of course, Pingus. Experiencing these wines are a rare treat, because they always over deliver and have the elegance and complexity to create life-long admirers of Spain’s beautiful wine tradition in a single sip.

Today, we’re thrilled to share that same opportunity with you: Pingus is here!

Peter Sisseck arrived from Denmark to Ribera del Duero in the early 1990s. While working for some of the region's best wineries he fell in love with the ancient vines of this arid, Spanish region. He sought out the old-vines and began his winery, named Pingus after a childhood nickname. He deployed modern techniques to the tiny output of these vines, resulting in richly complex and concentrated wines. The wines drip in black fruit and chocolate with a structured backbone bound together with flavors of crushed rock.

As soon as Pingus entered the wine scene, the wines of Ribera del Duero were never looked at the same. His first vintage of Pingus scored a 96-100 range from Robert Parker, grabbing the world’s attention and piquing curiosity about the old vines of the historic region. Parker called it “one of the greatest and most exciting wines I have ever tasted” building anticipation around the world.

As the story goes, on its way to America, the highly anticipated first release of Pingus and Flor de Pingus disappeared. Many bottles of the inaugural wines were lost on a transport ship that sank beneath the sea off of the Azores. Demand of these alluring wines has been unwavering ever-since.

Since then, many more 100-point Pingus wines have safely reached our shores (2003, 2004, 2012, 2014, 2016). And we are thrilled to have the latest perfect Pingus to share with you!
