Elusive Cellar-Selection Sonoma Pinot
Dan Goldfield is a small-production Pinot obsessive. The Robert Mondavi and Schramsberg alum makes eleven different site-specific bottlings from some of the most renowned vineyards on the Sonoma Coast.
They RARELY make it outside the winery.
The lucky few who have tasted Dan’s single-site wines know they deliver all the elegance and layered complexity of Sonoma County’s top $80+ Pinots. And a single taste of his Wine Enthusiast Cellar Selection 2018 Redwood Ridge will show you exactly why it belongs alongside the icons at the top of the Sonoma Pinot pyramid.
Born of the Wine Advocate’s highest-scoring Sonoma vintage ever, this is an exhilarating wine with an exotic bounty in every sip, its sultry red fruit bolstered with cleansing, vibrant acidity. Multi-dimensional and complex, its silky tannins will allow it to age gracefully for years to come... if you’ve got the self-control.
This wine was grown in the Pinot Noir paradise of Putnam Vineyard, which is tucked into an ancient redwood grove near Peay and Wayfarer. It’s a sunshine-laden spot that sits above the fog line and produces gorgeous Pinot Noir, and Dan Goldfield is one of just three winemakers with access to it.
Dan cold-soaked the Pinot Noir for five days to extract gorgeous color and fruit character before an open-top fermentation. Then he treated the wine to a luxurious 16-month rest in 55% new French oak, unveiling further notes of spice and cocoa. The resulting wine is a brilliant mix of California ripeness, oceanside freshness, and savory depth.
