The 2018 J. Moreau & Fils Blanchot Grand Cru Chablis is the kind of Chardonnay that every wine lover should experience at least once in their life. 

Grown on the revered Blanchot Grand Cru, it’s stunningly pure—a world-class white showing gorgeous citrus, green apple, and honeysuckle aromas, a generous mouthfeel, and a remarkably long limestone-tinged finish. Awash in chalky delicacy and showing the fullness of a warm vintage, it left no doubt that we wanted to claim every bottle in the States.

In Chablis in 2018, a rainy (and frost-free) spring and a warm, dry summer allowed the vines at Blanchot to develop grapes with perfect ripeness and concentration. When the domaine harvested their Chardonnay in September, they brought in flawless, juicy berries—and, like other top producers, they praised the vintage as one of the best they’d seen in decades.

The 2018 Blanchot Grand Cru is a 95-point triumph that shows why the domaine has been on a serious roll. After full malolactic fermentation and aging on the fine lees for 14 months, the wine deftly balances roundness and rich fruit with the vibrancy and crisp acidity for which Chablis is known. It’s a profound bottle, and if you stash it in a cool cellar it will continue to reward for another six years or more.
