A Big Bet on Napa Cab

Let’s talk about the 2018 Letterhead Cabernet Sauvignon Single Vineyard Calistoga Napa Valley—and why it blew us away when we tasted it. Grown on a top Calistoga vineyard and crafted by a multi-100-point winning winemaker, it earned 94+ points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate—the same as Kongsgaard, Far Niente, Alpha Omega, Realm, and dozens more wines that cost twice as much.

Born of the beautiful and bountiful 2018 growing season, it comes from an impeccably farmed vineyard at the base of Diamond Mountain, a prime site—and one whose Cabernet typically goes for double the Napa Valley average.

The grapes were harvested overnight, then sorted at daybreak. After fermentation and a long 22-month rest in 100% French oak (25% new), the blend was assembled using only free-run juice.

With black-fruit aromas joined by equally intense notes of vanilla, clove, violets, mocha, and pie spice, the Cab is layered and full on the palate, with a long, seamless finish built on grippy tannins. A nuanced and profound expression of this gorgeous Calistoga site, it’s drinking great right now but structured to improve over the next decade and beyond.

We’re all thrilled to share it with you—and since only a couple hundred cases of it were made, it’s a rare gem that’ll make your collector friends jealous they don’t have it in their cellars.
