Rita Hills, just north of LA in the western portion of Santa Barbara County, has a special combination of aspect, soil, and climate that lends itself to be one of the most celebrated of the Pacific coast sites. The Sea Smoke Cellars 2018 Southing Pinot Noir is from the south-facing plots on the estate vineyards. This wine is profoundly flavorful yet light. It is a balancing act to be sure. Raspberries and tea leaves abound, but it is the acid and silky smooth tannins that really capture the attention.
