2018 Silverado Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Block Blend Napa Valley 750 ml

Over the course of the last four decades, Silverado has quietly acquired one of the most impressive collections of vineyards in Napa—and today’s wine welds together some of their most coveted estate-grown parcels for an outrageous deal in California Cabernet.

Their 2018 Block Blend features fruit from their legendary Stags Leap vineyard married to the Cabernet from the legendary Oakville Station vineyard in the heart of Oakville. Rocky, volcanic-soil Blocks M and T in their Mt. George estate vineyard in Coombsville complete the blend, which was grown in Wine Spectator’s favorite Napa vintage in a generation. 

In California, your status as an iconic winery is confirmed when UC Davis names a heritage clone after you. It means the vines on your property are so unique and important to the history of California wine that they deserve to be preserved for future generations.

Only three Cabernet vineyards in the entire state have been important enough to merit that kind of preservation—and the Disney-Silverado Heritage Clone is the only one from Stags Leap. It’s affectionately known as “See’s Clone” in reference to Harry See, the candy magnate who originally planted Silverado’s Stags Leap vineyard in 1968. Diane Miller, Walt Disney’s daughter, and her husband Ron purchased the site in 1981, and they’ve quietly added to that crown jewel to create one of the most impressive collections of vineyards in southern Napa.

Between their Stags Leap, Oakville, and Coombsville sites, this wine comes from a lineup of vineyards that would impress the Steel Curtain with power and complexity. The block blend was originally crafted for Silverado’s wine club, but we managed to pry a few cases loose for our members. Enjoy!
