The heart and soul of Black Kite has long been the striking Kite's Rest Vineyard, a 40-acre plot that rises from the Navarro River to over 400 feet of elevation. Robert Whitley of Wine Review Online called Kite's Rest "one of the most spectacular Pinot Noir vineyards in the New World," and the 2019 Redwoods' Edge comes from its top block—by elevation and by prestige.

Cooled by elevation and proximity to the ancient towering redwoods, this block produces Redwoods' Edge, Black Kite's most Burgundian bottling. After a few years in the cellar, this 2019 is drinking absolutely flawlessly, with aromas of dark cherry and blackberry, kola nut, and sarsaparilla spice. The palate is juicy at the core, framed by silky tannins that deliver a long-lasting finish. It's an elite Pinot that stands out in an excellent lineup.

Black Kite's estate vineyard, Kite's Rest, is located in the so-called "Deep End" of Mendocino County's Anderson Valley. It sits just ten miles from the Pacific Ocean, starting at the Navarro River and climbing to the edge of a redwood forest. With a northern exposure, the Pinot Noir grown at this site enjoys an even longer hang time than the rest of Anderson Valley, promoting slow, even ripening—what every winemaker in the world wants.
